LiposculptureLiposculpture is more commonly known as liposuction and is an effective procedure for removing fat deposits from areas of the body that don’t respond to dieting or exercise. There are many kinds of names for these stubborn deposits, such as “love handles,” a “muffin top” or “saddle bags.” Liposuction is capable of safely removing significant amounts of fat and can subtly sculpt the shape of the body but should not be considered an alternative to healthy eating and exercise.

Liposculpture is typically performed with the assistance of a thin, suction-powered tube called a cannula. The hollow tube is attached to a vacuum and may also be modified with a laser, ultrasound or water system. There are variations in technique, such as the tumescent liposuction technique, which involves adding local anesthesia to the fat, allowing the procedure to be performed without general anesthesia.
