Breast Lift Danville

The breasts naturally relax with time and this relaxation or ptosis of the breasts can be accelerated by pregnancy, weight gain and the size of the breasts. A breast lift or mastopexy can return the breasts to a more youthful and lifted appearance. Breast lifts can be done with or without implants depending on whether you are happy with the size and shape of the breasts.

Scars in a breast lift are limited to around the areola and straight down, a lollipop incision, and can be limited to only around the areola if a more limited lift is needed. Depending on how your body scars, the scars usually fade away after a year to being barely visible.

Surgery is usually 2 hours and is done as an outpatient procedure in a private fully hospital accredited surgery center. Recovery time is 2-3 weeks and involves no strenuous activity or heavy lifting for 2-3 weeks. Light activity is encouraged after surgery but no strenuous or repetitive activity especially with the arms for the first few weeks. A long acting local anesthetic is used in the area and patients are usually comfortable after surgery, decreasing the need for pain medications.

Breast Lift Questions

Who is a good candidate for a breast lift?

The breasts naturally relax with time and this relaxation or ptosis of the breasts can be accelerated by pregnancy, weight gain and the size of the breasts. A breast lift or mastopexy can return the breasts to a more youthful and lifted appearance.

Do I need to have implants and what are the advantages and disadvantages of having implants with a lift?

Breast lifts can be done with or without implants depending on whether you are happy with the size and shape of the breasts. If the volume of the breast is enough in a bra then you may not need an implant. The natural breast does tend to drop into the lower portion of the breast and hollow on the top of the breast. Some women like a fuller look on the top of the breast and an implant can add shape and stability to the breasts even if it does not enlarge it significantly. If the breast has lost a lot of volume, the implants can restore volume and shape to the breast. Implants offer significant advantages in the shape and appearance of the breasts. Placing the implants under the muscle gives a natural appearance and decreases the risk of capsular contracture of the implant. There are risks associated with implants and adding a foreign material to the body can produce side effects, although uncommon, which need to be explored prior to deciding on having implants.

Do breast lifts produce a lot of scars?

Scars in a breast lift are limited to around the areola and straight down, a lollipop incision, and can be limited to only around the areola if a more limited lift is needed. Depending on how your body scars, the scars usually fade away after a year to being barely visible. These vertical mammoplasties have largely replaced the more traditional anchor or Wise pattern mammoplasty.

What can I expect after the surgery?

Surgery is usually 2 hours and is done as an outpatient procedure in a private fully hospital accredited surgery center. Recovery time is 2-3 weeks and involves no strenuous activity or heavy lifting for 2-3 weeks. Light activity is encouraged after surgery but no strenuous or repetitive activity especially with the arms for the first few weeks. A long acting local anesthetic is used in the area as a nerve block and patients are usually comfortable after surgery, decreasing the need for pain medications. There are usually no drains and patients can shower 48 hours after surgery. You will go home wrapped in an ace wrap and this can be removed in 24 hours. You will be sent home with a surgery bra to wear after the ace wrap is removed. The surgery bra should be worn for 2 weeks day and night and then for the next 2 weeks at night. Regular bras can be worn after two weeks as long as they are not too tight.
